Remote data collection for non-federal AWOS has been in development for the past two years in conjunction with an NASAO initiative to transmit weather data to the National Weather Service and WMSCR systems.

Using specially configured IWAPI smart devices, real-time AWOS weather information from mountain passes and airports across the state of Colorado can be collected and transmitted, on an automated basis. The project involves a number of innovative practices and is first in the real-time collection of this type of information.
